Companion

Utility app to interact and participate with Whiteboard

Hosting a myViewBoard session

The Companion app allows users to interact with an active myViewBoard session directly from their device. The host must provide a Host session ID that will allow participants to join the session.

Classroom setting

In an educational setting, use the Companion app to promote interaction during your myViewBoard lessons:

  • Teachers set up the myViewBoard app so it can start receiving responses.
  • Students use the Companion app to send responses to the myViewBoard app.

Teacher tasks

Teachers and educators now act as Host. To start hosting a session, they must use their ViewSonic account to:

  • Log in to their myViewBoard app to make their Host session ID accessible and ready to receive responses.
  • (Optional) Log in to Companion app under the Host/IT Admin role to use Companion's remote control features.
  • Ideally, Teachers should use myViewBoard to load up an OLF file related to the questions that they will ask during the session.

Audience tasks

Once the myViewBoard canvas is ready, students use the Companion app to join as one of the following roles:

  • Participant
Students sign in with their ViewSonic account. Companion automatically uses their myViewBoard name (or email) to label their responses.

  • Guest
Students just provide a Host session ID and a Name to join a session. This provided Name will be used to label their responses.

For more information about these sign-in roles found in the Companion app, refer to the article below:

About session ID

The session ID is a name that serves as a unique identifier for the host. To customize this session ID (or myViewBoard Name), the host can set this value before the session begins by going to the following location on the ViewSonic portal:

  • myViewBoard settings  »  Preferences  »  myViewBoard name setting

The host must provide their session ID to all users who wish to join as Participants and Guests for the current session. To activate this ID, the host must sign in to a myViewBoard app so their session ID becomes live and accessible to everyone. Afterwards, the host must perform one of the following to share the session ID with the audience:

  • The session ID will be visible on the upper left corner of the myViewBoard app. Tap on the session ID to open a sharing window with a QR code and a URL to the user's myViewBoard portal.
  • Selected features of myViewBoard have a QR code icon on their interface. Tapping on this icon will also bring up the sharing popup with the QR code and URL.

Session passwords

If a session password has been set, the host must also share their session password from within myViewBoard. Note the following behavior for session passwords:

  • If the session host has set a password, Participants and Guests must type this password along with the host name.
  • If you are signed in as a Host/IT Admin, no session password is required.
  • If you are signed in with the same account as the myViewBoard host, no session password is required.
  • If you wish to interact with the myViewBoard session and you are not the host, the session password will be required.
  • Session passwords are not saved between sessions and are immediately discarded if a user switches or joins another session ID.
