Utility app to interact and participate with Whiteboard

Companion sign in on mobile

Once installed, use your mobile device to sign in to the Companion app. The Companion app requires users to sign in with the appropriate role to access specific features for hosting, participating, or joining sessions.

 

Sign in & Roles

Before signing in, identify your role to ensure you have the correct permissions for your session. Companion provides the following roles:

Host / IT Admin
Participant
Guest

 

Note the following recommendations:

  • IT Admins must sign in with their Entity Admin accounts. 
  • Hosts and Participants should use their registered ViewSonic accounts. 
  • Teachers and presenters should advise their audience members to sign in using the Participant role or to simply join as a Guest.

Sign in with a ViewSonic account

Hosts and Participants can use their ViewSonic accounts to access Companion. To sign in with email, perform the following:
 

  1. Launch the Companion app.
  2. Tap one of the following:
    1. .Host / IT Admin 
    2. .Participant
       
  3. On the popup:
    1. Provide the email and password used to register with ViewSonic.
    2. Click Sign in.
       
  4. The next screen shown depends on the role selected:
    • Host / IT Admin 
      The Companion app home page opens. Note the additional actions available for this role on the lower toolbar.
    • Participants 
      Specify the Session ID of an active myViewBoard session. To customize the name that appears when you send a response, update the Your name field.

 

Alternatively, you can sign in using a linked third-party account. To sign in with a linked account, tap one of the following and complete the sign in screen:

Sign in as a guest

If you do not have a ViewSonic account, you can still join an existing session as a Guest. To join a session without a ViewSonic account, perform the following:

 

  1. Tap the Guest role.
  2. Type the target Host session ID and Your name in the provided fields. 
  3. Tap the Guest Login button.

 

About session ID

Users joining as Participants and Guests must provide a session ID shared by the host. To customize this session ID (or myViewBoard Name), the host can set this value before the session begins by going to the following location on the ViewSonic portal: 

 

  • myViewBoard settings  »  Preferences  »  myViewBoard name setting

 

During the session, the host must sign in to a myViewBoard app so the session ID becomes live and accessible. Afterwards, perform one of the following to share the session ID with the audience:

 

  • The session ID will be visible on the upper left corner of the myViewBoard app. Tap on the session ID to open a sharing window with a QR code and a URL to the user's myViewBoard portal. 
  • Selected features of myViewBoard have a QR code icon on their interface. Tapping on this icon will also bring up the sharing popup with the QR code and URL.

 

 

Autofill with QR code

To autofill the session ID field, Participants and Guests can use the Companion app to scan the QR code of the myViewBoard session they want to join.

 

  1. Sign in as a Participant first, or use the Guest area below.
  2. Tap the QR code icon at the end of the Host's session ID field: 
    1. This opens your device's camera app. 
    2. Grant permissions if needed.
    3. Adjust the camera position so the the QR code is inside the scanning area.
       
  3. On a successful scan, the Companion app closes the camera app and auto-fills the session ID field with the correct code.
  4. Proceed with the same steps outlined in the previous sections.

Session passwords

If the session requires a session password to join, the host must share their session password from within myViewBoard. Note the following behavior for session passwords:

 

  • If the session host has set a password, Participants and Guests must type this password along with the host name.
  • If you are signed in as a Host/IT Admin, no session password is required.
  • If you are signed in with the same account as the myViewBoard host, no session password is required.
  • If you wish to interact with the myViewBoard session and you are not the host, the session password will be required.

 

Reset a password

If you cannot access your account, use the password reset tool to regain access. To reset your password, perform the following:

 

  1. Click Forgot Password?.
  2. Wait for the password reset email to arrive at the address associated with your ViewSonic account.
  3. Follow the instructions provided in the email to reset your password.

 

Access settings and feedback

You can view additional application information and submit feedback directly from the main sign-in page. To access this information, perform the following:

 

  1. Click the Info icon on the top-left corner of the sign-in page.
     
  2. The following actions are available:
    1. View settings-related information 
    2. Submit feedback
    3. Visit the social media accounts
