Side toolbar

The side toolbar provides direct access to a set of tools that allow you to perform standard tasks on your ViewBoard. When minimized, the side toolbar collapses into an icon that is always accessible regardless of input source.

Access the side toolbar

By default, the side toolbar is collapsed into a small button that is located on the right, left, and bottom sides of the ViewBoard. Tap this button to show the contents of the side toolbar.

Side toolbar icons

The side toolbar is organized into several sections. Short descriptions of the side toolbar contents are listed below.

 

These are the default icons that appear on the side toolbar on a fresh install. Note that the side toolbar can be customized to show additional app icons.

 

  Back
Return to the previous screen.
  Home
Return to the ViewBoard home screen.
  Recent apps
Display all open apps.
  Apps
View all installed apps.
  Tools
Built-in apps that add interactivity over the screen. 
  Marker
Add and manage annotations over the ViewBoard screen.
  Input menu
Access your current input source's settings. 
Icon will change depending on current input source.

Annotation

Add and manage annotations over the ViewBoard screen. Tap the Marker icon to gain access to the following features:

 

  Touch mode
Enable scrolling through web pages or documents during the annotation session, while preserving all existing strokes.
  Pen
Draw solid colored lines over your current screen. Default tool active when the Annotation toolbar appears.
  Highlighter
Emphasize content on the screen with a semi-transparent stroke.
  Eraser
Remove pen or highlighter marks.
  Undo
Undo a previous action.
  Redo
Redo a previously undone action.
  Clear all
Clear all marks on the screen.
  Save
Save the current screen image, including any annotation marks.
  Exit
Close the toolbar and end the annotation session. Upon exit, the device returns to its previous state with all annotations removed from the screen. 

 

Annotation tools

 

 

Tools

Tools are built-in apps that add interactive elements over the ViewBoard screen. Tap the Tools icon to gain access to the following features:

 

  Marker
Activate the marker toolbar to annotate on the screen and access tools to manage drawn strokes.
  Screenshot
Take a screenshot of the current screen. ViewBoard saves the image in your Folders app.
  Spotlight
Display a spotlight to focus on a part of the screen. Tap the settings icon to adjust the spotlight size and level of transparency around the spotlight.
  Stopwatch
Run a countdown widget, with an optional alarm. Users have the option to launch the timer in full screen, or display it as a mini stopwatch that allows continued use of the ViewBoard while running.
  Timer
Keep track of time duration during activities. Users have the option to launch the timer in full screen, or display it as a mini timer that allows continued use of the ViewBoard while running.
  Screen Lock
Launches a lock screen to secure your ViewBoard. Users must type the password to unlock.
  Freeze
Convert the currently displayed screen into a still image. Use pinch gestures to zoom in or out.
  Irlen filter
Adjust the color of the screen to reduce reading-related visual stress.

Customize the side toolbar

Once you have new apps installed, you can start adding shortcuts to your most commonly used tools and apps on the side toolbar. 

 

All Apps

To add installed apps on the side toolbar:
 

  1. Tap All Apps.
  2. Tap Edit in the Apps tray. 
    A new icon overlay will appear over the apps.
     
  3. Locate your target app and perform the following:
    1. Tap Add to create an app shortcut.
    2. Tap Remove to delete the app shortcut. 
      Select up to 4 apps to add to the side toolbar.
       
  4. Tap Confirm to save your changes.

 

 

Tools

To add tools on the side toolbar:

 

  1. Tap Tools.
  2. Tap Edit in the Tools tray. 
    A new icon overlay will appear over the apps.
     
  3. Locate your target tool and perform the following:
    1. Tap Add to create a tool shortcut.
    2. Tap Remove to delete the tool shortcut.
      Select up to 2 tools to add to the side toolbar.
       
  4. Tap Confirm to save your changes.

 

 

 

Hide the side toolbar

By default, the side toolbar is always visible on all input sources. To hide the toolbar, perform the following steps:

 

  1. Launch the Settings app and navigate to the following section:

     Settings » Preferences » Toolbar settings
     
  2. Tap Hide side toolbar
    The setting takes effect immediately.


     

 

Once this setting is active, users must swipe from the edge toward the center of the screen to show the side toolbar again.
