Quiz Tool quick start guide

This guide walks through how to use the Quiz Tool from within myViewBoard v3.0. Activate the Quiz Tool to switch into real-time interactive mode: creating questions, monitoring the class, and reviewing results in one continuous flow.

Activate the Quiz Tool

The Quiz Tool is located directly from the main toolbar.

1. Open myViewBoard v3.0 
2. Locate the Quiz Tool toggle on the main toolbar.
3. Click to turn the toggle on.
4. Wait for the Quiz Tool window to load.

Select a class

Before students can join, create or select a class. Select one of the following options.

• One-time Class 
  Creates a temporary class that is discarded when the lesson ends. This option is available even if not signed in.
   
• Roster Class (Google SSO)
  Selected by default when you create a class while signed in. Each student signs in individually with their own Google account.
   
• Roster Class (by Google Classroom) 
  Creates a class from an existing Google Classroom roster. This option can only be created via myViewBoard Hub.

Get students to join

Once a class is selected, the Join Class window opens for students to join. In the Join Class window:

1. Share the join link, QR code, or class code shown. 
2. Watch the bottom of the window for real-time join status across the class.

The Quiz Tool matches student name and responses based on the class mode selected: 

• In a One-time Class (including Guest Mode) 
  Students type a name and pick a seat.
   
• In a Roster Class (Google SSO) 
  Students sign in with Google and are mapped to their Google identity. 
   
• In a Roster Class by Google Classroom 
  Students sign in with Google and are mapped to their Google Classroom identity.

Send a question

Once students have joined, perform one of the following to send a question:

• Screenshot Quiz
  Create a question by selecting content on myViewBoard (PPT, PDF, handwriting, images) and taking a screenshot. Best for in-class, on-the-fly moments.
   
• Quiz Collection 
  Load a question already prepared and saved in myViewBoard Hub. Best for pre-class preparation and reusing questions.

Supported question types:

For question types that require answer options, the Quiz Tool handles correct answer configuration via the following workflow:

• The Multiple Choice and Poll types will require answer options to be configured first before the question can be sent. All other question types can be sent immediately after capturing the screen.
• The True/False and Multiple Choice types require you to specify the correct answers at the end of each quiz.

Other ways to send a question during a quiz:

• Click Quiz Collection to open a new window. This new window loads your Hub folders and you can filter by standard, type, or time to find a question for the current quiz.
• Use Batch Quiz to select and dispatch up to 20 questions as one set.

Review results

After a question is sent, the flow moves through monitoring, an optional reveal stage, and results review.

Monitor progress 

A timer runs, and Refresh re-syncs. You decide when to end answering. 

• Once submitted, answers can't be edited.
• Each student appears as a card showing Submitted, Not submitted, or Absent 
• Tap any answered card to view that response. 

Reveal the correct answer 

Applicable for True/False and Multiple Choice only. 

• Select the correct answer with a radio button (or checkboxes for multi-select Multiple Choice), then tap Submit to reveal. 
• Poll, Short Answer, Sketch Response, and Audio skip this step and go straight to results.

Review results  

Results will be shown in a new panel.

• Use the Overview tab for class-wide results, displayed as a pie chart .
• Use the Student responses tab for individual answers.

The panel includes the following options, depending on the active tab and question type:

• Highlight by option lets you click an option bar to instantly highlight every student who chose it (True/False, Multiple Choice, Poll).
• Random draw from results picks one student at random from those who submitted responses. The picked card is highlighted and the student is notified on their device.
• In the Student responses panel: 
  • Answers stay hidden by default so students don't see each other's answers early. 
  • Tap each individual response card to reveal the responses one at a time, .
  • Use the Show responses toggle to show all responses at once. Note that this toggle resets to off for each new question. 
  • For Sketch Response and Audio, tap each card individually to reveal the answers.

Engagement tools

Use the following engagement tools anytime during a quiz to boost participation. These tools are available from within the Join Class window, or from the Magic Box (if the Quiz Tool is not active).

Spinner

Randomly picks a student via a virtual spin wheel. This tool needs at least 2 students to spin. The tool presents the following options after a spin: 

• Spin again. Perform another spin to pick a new student. 
• Remove from draw. Removes the selected student name as an available option on the wheel.
• Refresh. Fetches the latest roster. This also adds back any student name removed from the wheel. 

Buzzer 

Starts a ‘buzzer’ race to determine which student can submit a response the fastest.

• After pressing Buzz/Start, a button appears on each student's device and students tap to respond. 
• The screen displays the name of the student who tapped the button first, based on the earliest recorded time in milliseconds.
• Tap Buzz again for a new round.
